More Concealed Weapon Permits Possible
Sacramento County Sheriff May Consider Changes Amid Budget Cuts

More Concealed Weapon Permits Possible - Sacramento News Story - KCRA Sacramento

"With the anticipated decrement in patrol staffing, and the resultant potential for inadequate patrol officer staffing, I will have to reconsider the criteria for issuance of CCWs [concealed weapons permits]. Nothing is etched in stone, but as circumstances change, we need to address public safety in an environment with too few patrol officer positions to meet traditional expectations," McGinness said in a statement.

He's doing a pretty thorough media blitz, that McGinness is. The "Nothing is etched in stone..." part is one place where it's clear he's being a politician about this.

Yeah. He's just trying to scare people into giving him money.

Yeah, but if his scare doesn't work... :-) who knows! Maybe he'll come around and deliver on the threat.

So is he trying to scare people by using the argument that additional CCW permits will be a problem?
Or he is saying that things will be so bad that people will need CCWs.
Anyway, he is using the CCW card. I think it is a bluff. My understanding is he does not issue. Am I right? If he does not issue, I am sure he won't change. People do not change!

I hear it live on KFBK with Kitty and Grasswich.

He was very dodgy and skirted the issue. He spoke about Psych tests and possibly lower Cause for CCW. Followed it up with BOS trying to find money to not let so menu Deputies go.

I saw it as his ussual PC stay on the fence with long sentences that eliminate being held down to anything.

Do you have any idea the kind of huge influx of money the state of California would all of a sudden see if the whole state were to become shall issue, and issue non resident permits? We're talking probably millions of dollars all of a sudden coming into the state. And not only from the permits, but those who refuse to come here because they can't carry their gun, would all of a sudden be coming here spending money again. Would be one of the smartest moves this state could possibly make especially in a time of such huge budget crisis.

Sacramento would be very smart to make it easier, but you guys are probably right. He's probably just using that to scare the anti gun people into coming up with more money.

Do you think it has anything to do with the lawsuits levied against him and his department regarding ccw's and campain contributions?

It's a bit of both... so that the BoS up here won't slash the SSD budget. About 170 or so Deputies have gotten notices that they might be laid off... so far. Scare the power brokers and scare the populace...

He's a politician. He's looking to keep his re-election possibilities open.

Given the budget issues, the lawsuits probably a small factor... The trial court found in his favor and he's probably not too worried about the appeals court, which just had their oral arguments. There's another case going through the system now that might have more of an effect, but it hasn't gone to trial yet.

The law suit means NOTHING to Guiness.

I find he's a politician first and a Sheriff second. I don't care for his long winded response to every question. Mind numbing examples of double speak. Just my opinion.

I work in Sac County and I'm glad I live outside of it so that I can have a CCW for when I'm at work.

If any Californian needs a CCW, it's those poor Sacramentonians.

On the other hand, I enjoy making fun of my friends in Sac who own guns.
