Default Sac Co CCW

Do you know if anyone has been granted a CCW since the Sheriff made his statement? It was in this month issue of Guns & Ammo too.

Friend at SSD says Sheriff actually in favor of CCW's but doesn't because of his direction. Board of County Supervisors?? Anyone else hear something similar?

That is bull, he was elected and has no obligation to follow directives from the BOS.

He's got no b@!!$, the sheriff is elected and his only connection to the BOS is for funding.
He ought to get a lesson from our sheriff Mims on how to pressure the BOS for adequate funding. It's real easy, simply go to the public and show how the BOS is not supporting 'public safety'.

Default Good news for Sacramento residents???

Found a link to this article from another site. CCW issuance is up 500% over last year! Up to 37 approved this year as opposed to last years 6. It's gonna be chaos in the streets boys!!! The sheriff is just handing them out willy-nilly now. Come one, come all, get your permits here....wait...except you. And you. Nah, you neither.

Sacramento Press / Sacramento County Sheriff Approving More Concealed Weapons Permits

Sacramentans are arming themselves in increasing numbers, statistics from the Sacramento County Sheriff reveal.

Applications approved by the sheriff to carry a concealed weapon have increased more than 500 percent from 2008, statistics show. By September 30, the department had approved 37 applications to carry a concealed weapon, compared with six approved applications in 2008.

The sheriff also has been denying applications in increasing numbers: 25 applications were denied by September 30, compared with 10 permit denials in 2008. Overall, the sheriff had approved or denied 62 concealed weapon permits by October, nearly four times as many as had been processed through 2008.

Someone postulated that a lot of those CCW's may have gone to some laid-off Deputies as the numbers of those laid off vs. CCW's issued is about the same...

I don't know if I quite believe that.

Sounds about right though, doesn't it?

I'd be surprised if it was indeed exactly the case. The SSD might be issuing some more CCW licenses in an attempt to moot or limit the damage from losing the Sykes case... should that happen.

I know the whole story. it has nothing to do with the BOS. It has to do with the Sac political machine.

From what little I do know of Sheriff McGinnis and the local political environment, it's basically the political machine that's controlling the CCW policies out here. I don't have the same sources of info that CCWI has, but what I've learned from some others that have followed this issue for years from within Sac PD and SSD basically confirm to my own personal satisfaction that it's machine politics that's driving this.

I have no doubt that CCWI knows what's going on behind the scenes in far more detail than I do.
