Gun owners angry at OC GOP
April 21st, 2009, 9:59 am · posted by Steven Greenhut

Orange County gun activists are angry that the Orange County Republican Party watered down its CCW resolution — turning it from a vote of no confidence in Sheriff Sandra Hutchens to a resolution that simply opposes the sheriff’s highly restrictive concealed-carry policies. Many gun owners see it as a typical GOP sell-out of the grassroots in favor of Hutchens’ liberal New Majority backers. OC GOP Chairman Scott Baugh admits that he helped water down the proposal but says his goal was to a) protect the party from heading down a path of constant resolutions condemning politicians and b) assure that a resolution passed. He argues that a “no confidence” vote probably could not have mustered a two-thirds majority and failure would have harmed the CCW cause. Here is Allen Bartlett writing about the resolution at Red County. OC GOP Central Committee Votes To "Oppose" Sheriff Hutchens On Her Restrictive CCW Policy | Red County
