Anti Self Defense, erratic and secretive... Not what I want from a Sheriff...
Very well said.
So much for her promise of bringing transparency to the office.

Rickr96, I hope you don't mind. I plagerized your comment, almost completely verbatim, and used it on a couple blog posts.

Thanks,

Default "I don't make the law, I enforce the law."

The first time I heard a cop say, "I don't make the law, I enforce the law." was when I was 17 years old and took a ticket to the CHP office to ask why it took two officers to pull me over and write me for my headlights being below 24" from the ground. (They were 23.5" from the ground). The officers took a PR24 baton and placed it in front of my truck's grill and gave me a lesson on the length of a PR24 before asking me questions about my CB radio and poking their noses in my cab at 10pm one night when I was on my way home after work.

I was pissed...so after having a local tire shop raise my truck's front end a foot into the air, I drove to the CHP station and pulled up their uphill parking spot. The officer stood scratching his chin at the sight of my truck, but signed off on the ticket. I went right back down to the tire shop and they put it right back where it was the first time.

The moral of the story is that the statement, "I don't make the laws, I enforce them" is complete BULLS H I T.

Two 1/2 years later I was a sworn deputy. (Still the same kid face) A friend asked if I would drive his "lowered" truck to his house as a favor to him from Lancaster to Simi Valley. I told him I was sure to be pulled over in that thing because it stuck out like a sore thumb. He told me that is why he wanted ME to drive it and not HIM.

Ten miles down the road, CHP pulled me over on the freeway. I took out my flat badge and handed it to him. He looked around to make sure no one was looking and then he slipped it back into my hand. "Have a good one," he says as he walks back to his unit.

See the difference?

By the way...that friend with the lowered truck has now been on the LAPD for 18 years.

The world is a complicated place with a lot of twists and turns, but the truth is the truth. Hutchens has choices, discretion, spirit of the law, examples in other counties to follow and the truth is that she does't like the public. Again...you guys are all one step away from being inmates in her eyes.

That's a point I've been dying to make. She keeps saying that the Younger memo is the only guidance on good cause she has. Hogwash! She has the guidance of 70% of her fellow sheriffs who accept "personal protection" as good cause. She has the guidance of the Board of Supervisors who urged her to adopt a broader view of good cause and even gave her a suggested standard to follow.

But the next stop is the full Republican Central Committee on April 20 at the Hyatt hotel in Irvine, which is a public meeting.

The final version of the resolution has been posted.

Revised Version Of OC GOP "No Confidence In Hutchen's CCW Policy" Resolution | Red County

Quote:
Whereas, the Republican Party of Orange County firmly supports the positions outlined in the California Republican Party platform which declares:
“The United States Constitution guarantees the right of its citizenry to keep and bear arms. One of the first acts of a totalitarian society is to disarm its people. California’s gun control laws only serve to disarm law abiding citizens, not criminals. We oppose any further gun control legislation and support the right of all California citizens to own and bear guns and ammunition for any lawful purpose. We call for statewide legislation to allow qualified law abiding citizens in California to carry concealed weapons. We support allowing citizens to use deadly force to protect lives and property. We also support including all of these rights in the California constitution.
Finally, we call for the elimination of waiting periods to purchase firearms and instead support complete implementation of instant background checks.”
And whereas, the Republican Party of Orange County supports and promotes principles of limited government, individual responsibility, and the defense of freedom with fair and equal treatment of law-abiding citizens; and

Whereas, the Sheriff of Orange County, a registered Republican, recently launched efforts and policies to retroactively review, revoke, expire and eliminate several hundred previously issued and valid carry concealed weapons permits or CCWs, adversely affecting permit holders.

Whereas, these revocations without cause, violate an agreed-upon contractual relationship for a defined period of permitted use between the Sheriff’s Department and CCW permit holders, resulting in a limiting of freedom and abuse of discretion by an officeholder.

Whereas, the Sheriff claims she is merely following “the law” yet Sheriffs in California are empowered with wide discretion regarding issuance of CCW permits, and Orange County recently ranked 43rd of 58 California counties in CCW permits issued per capita; and

Now, therefore be it resolved that the Central Committee of the Republican Party of Orange County adopts a position of “NO CONFIDENCE” in the CCW policy of the Sheriff and urges the Sheriff to revise her policy.

The Central Committee also urges the California legislature to adopt AB357 to make California a “shall issue” state as it relates to the citizens right to carry a concealed weapon.
A lot of people have put a huge amount of their time into this fight. Don't let them down. We need one evening of your time. The meeting is at 7:00 sharp. EVERYONE must be there to support this. If you have a CCW you must be there. If you want to have a CCW you must be there. We must have a large show of support. Bring your family, friends and neighbors.

ADDED BY HARRY CARRY: The 4/20 OC GOP Central Committee meeting will be at the Irvine Hyatt Regency at 7pm sharp.

In January of this year, at the Chamber's Government Affairs Committee meeting, I asked the appointed sheriff whether she had read or seen a summary or was otherwise familiar with John Lott's book, "More Guns, Less Crime" or any of his later books.

She replied, "No."

That was January and she is brazenly admitting to the Register her arbitrary and capricious approach to this issue. Obviously she does not care about reelection. Obviously she has something lined up already. Who cares about the lawsuits left in her wake?
