Yes, I agree: They HAVE to send revocations by certified mail or notify in person.

Lets face it, if you were to be picked up carrying, with a revoked CCW, the LEO is going to arrest you & seize your gun, wouldn't you say? Even if they dismiss the carrying charge, you still have a revocation AND NOW an arrest for illegally carrying on your sheet. IMO, not worth it. I guess what I'm certain of is it's gonna be more than a minor inconvenience.

I do not think the burden should be on the CCW holder to verify whether the terms of his CCW have been changed. That is the responsibility of the one breaking the contract. They need to choose a reliable method of communication.

They'd probably seize the permit and take the gun (if in the city and have you put it up in the trunk if in the country)...and let the D.A. decide.

So the moral of the story is: If you live in Orange County, you need to call the sheriff's office every day before you leave the house to check on teh status of your permit

If you think about it and follow it to it's logical conclusion, the only other alternative is to call them everyday:
Monday - "Hi. Is my permit still valid?" Tuesday - "Hi. Me again. Can I still carry my gun?" Wednesday - "Hey. Just checking. Is it still okay?" Thursday - "Did you change your mind yet?" Friday - "I am going to the store, can I bring my gun?" Saturday/ Sunday - Stay home just in case they changed their mind late Fri. Repeat each and every week until CCW expires. (Sorry NSP. I didn't see your post. We both had the same exact idea!) Last edited by gjj : 03-17-2009 at 08:42 AM. |

Due to the current budget crisis, the "non-essential" employees have the rest of the month off, there will be no one to answer the phones and all the "essential" employees will be manning the 911 switchboard or generating $s by writing speeding/parking tickets. I suggest calling 911 to ask....... you'll get a faster response. ![]()

Just for the record, I wasn't advocating, or suggesting that anybody else had advocated using "I didn't get a letter" as an excuse when in fact a letter was received, even if it was an unperfected service. What I was saying was that banking on the fact that you hadn't gotten a letter is a bad idea.
