Default Her Offical Title is "Appointed Sheriff"

Her official title is "Appointed Sheriff" NOT Sheriff!

A little history. . . In March of 1995 John Moorlach was appointed as the Orange County Treasure. In the following election he tried to use incumbent on the ballot. He was taken to court under the theory he was never elected. He lost, they won. On the ballot he was listed as "Appointed Treasure". Today that court case still stands.

She WILL be listed as "Appointed Sheriff" on the ballot.

Then that's the title we need to use when discussing her in blogs or anywhere in the press.

The potential problem I see here is, unless the word is spread and spread thoroughly, many uninformed voters will think, "well she must be qualified or the BoS would never have appointed her". This just ups the ante to a much higher degree. We need to be sure that the message gets out to the entire population here in OC.

That same thought crossed my mind.

Default Titles

Any titles we attached to the appointed sheriff should be carefully vetted so they don't come back and bite us.

I think that is the point. Not being able to use incumbent to me is better.

A lot of people just mark the incumbent box when they vote for an office that they know nothing about.

Yeah appointed might give her a little edge. But not as much as incumbent IMHO. there was a reason there was a lawsuit regarding this issue.

That's why I usually refer to her as Mrs. Hutchens, (who is currently holding the position of sheriff...)

Default A Serious Matter

All,
I have been trying to get any of the OC Supervisors to reply to me. Nothing seems to work. They are all too busy or in meetings or both. This is typical of our elected and appointed officials. I agree that we need to be organized and get the word out, but we also need to have a venue whereby we confront our arrogant, out-of-touch governing authorities. Let's get their attention ASAP.

I think you are a little late...we have progressed to the next stage. The BOS has no power, and has pretty much done all they can/will do. Now is where it starts to get ugly.

April 20th is your next chance to do just that. Details are around here somewhere. I read it not to long ago.
