Board stands up to imperious sheriff

January 28th, 2009, 3:42 pm · 17 Comments · posted by Steven Greenhut

Sheriff Sandra Hutchens refuses to let the board of supervisors have its own security tapes so the board has decided to consider hiring a private security firm or contract out to another police agency to provide security for the board room. That would be a good idea. As Norby told the Times, “‘Right now,’ he said, ‘the sheriff has essentially said ‘I’ll do what I want, and what the board wants doesn’t matter. And these security tapes are my property and I’m not going to give them to you’. Yet we know these security tapes include improper looking at the board, but we don’t know what’s on them because we can’t see them. It’s an odd confrontational tack to take. . . . I thought we’d be on the same side.’”

Good for them for taking a stance. Too bad they can't fire her.

Her out-of line actions may ultimately come around as something positive for us. If she oversteps far enough we can get her for civil rights violations.

We may not be able to hold her accountable or responsible for her actions in regards to the CCW issue - but civil rights can go a long way.
BTW - wasn't Hillman in charge when LAPD officers ended a gathering rather forcefully about two years ago? IIRC the media did not exactly like him for the things that happened under his command at that time.

Shame they can't fire her.

Maybe they could figure out a way to expire her term early like she's doing with permits

Man, she's a human mine detector. So far, she's found them all.

You folks must have an unlimited supply of shoes; I can't wait for the next one to drop.

Just when we think might be running low, she hands us another couple of shoeboxes full. It's just kind of fun to sit back, grab some popcorn, and watch them fall, isn't it?

Personally, I'm going for a snifter of Grand Marnier!

I pray your BOS is emboldened by all of this and moves down the proper path to resolve matters in favor of The People.
