Default This just in from Supervisor Bates

Dear Concerned Citizen,

In an effort to keep you updated on the ongoing debate over CCW permits I am sending this e-mail to inform you that the Sheriff will be giving a final report on her CCW policy at the January 13th Board of Supervisors’ meeting. Although this report is not yet listed on the official agenda, a supplemental agenda item will be added. The Sheriff is expected to report on information she has gathered from the Department of Justice and how that information will influence the implementation of her policy.

Whatever the Sheriff reports will likely have consequences for current CCW holders and any future applicants. Please be sure to watch that meeting live at County of Orange - Home or attend the meeting in person so that you can hear the Sheriff’s report first hand. Once the Sheriff makes here final views known I encourage you to share your thoughts with me, and of course make your opinions known to the Sheriff.

Additionally the Sheriff has indicated to me that a number of CCW permit holders have avoided the revocation or restriction of their CCW by providing additional good cause information to Department staff. I encourage any CCW permit holder or applicant who is at risk of revocation or restriction of their permit to make a strong case for good cause and see the process though it’s conclusion. By providing enough detailed information it is possible that your CCW may not be restricted or revoked.

Thank you for remaining concerned about this issue. Although the law gives the Sheriff the ultimate authority for the County’s CCW policy, I will continue to do all I can to encourage the Sheriff to implement a CCW policy that is transparent and recognizes the right of a citizen to provide for their own defense

Sincerely,
Patricia C. Bates
Supervisor, 5th District

That just stinks that with a change in sheriff, that a permit can be pulled on a whim. Play by the rules, demonstrate a history of being responsible and it can still be pulled. This could be any county, but I do feel bad for you OC folks.

I got three of these cookie cutter emails in the inbox today. Looks to me like the sheriff will let a few through the cracks and then just not renew any of them and the BOS knows it. I'll be there on the 13th, the outcome is predictable.
