I asked that question of two of my best friends, both sergeants on municipal PDs here in Colo. Both said that if they saw that their contact's CCW had been revoked, denied or not renewed they would assume that the contact "did something wrong" and they would become much more (one said "wary", the other said "suspicious") than they normally were during a stop.

Now, I heard Sheriff Hutchens say in the 11/18 meeting that she didn't imagine that an officer, seeing that information [during a traffic stop] would cause too much concern. (I don't have her exact quote but it went something like that.) Anyway, she downplayed the seriousness of it.

I guess that it's been a long time since the sheriff pulled any patrol duty eh?

She has a shown a consistent pattern of taking actions like this without thinking through the ramifications, and when confronted on it as she was at the Nov. 18th meeting, making statements like that to dismiss it.

If I saw revoked ccw, I'd have it in my mind through the entire contact. The question would be, "What did this guy do to get his ccw revoked?" The answer would be, "Something wrong, obviously."

And I'd have a hard time believing the good cause standard answer.

This is not a scientific test, just a Q&A
At the patrol level, those that knew about CCWs all replied that it would have to be revoked for some VERY serious reason or reasons. They could think of one reason and then tack on a couple secondaries.
A few at agency level came pretty much to the same conclusion.
That blemish would scream potentially violent person, violence that involved a firearm. Of course there are reasons where a firearm might not be involved, but the first thoughts were mostly along those lines. I certainly don't want to be placed in that situation because someone's research team fell short in their due diligence.

So.. instead, if the Sheriff really has to revoke and she really wants to avoid a negative DoJ record on us, then.. the wording should be, "revoked because even though the good cause is valid, I, as OCSD Sheriff, am anti-gun and on my whim alone I'm deciding to revoke so that we can be as safe as LA county"... ahh.. yes.. that would then make it quite clear to everyone as to why my CCW would have been revoked.
+1, could not have said it better!!!

Or as one speaker said on 11/18.

CCW revoked because......I AM THE SHERIFF AND I CAN DO WHAT I WANT!

Sound familar?

I think that Supervisor Bates did the Sheriff and the BOS a big favor by putting forward the resolution for seeking a clarification about having a revocation on someone’s record. I doubt that the DOJ is going to change their system just because some sheriff stepped into a big streaming pile of stuff by taking action without really thinking it through. I believe that the sheriff thought that Orange County is just like LA Country; anytime you do something that limits civilian and guns, you automatically get lots of support.

Now, she will “have” to await a decision, while letting the heat out of the issue. Frankly, all she really has to do is simply let the existing CCW’s expire and then give everyone a ration of crap until they simply give up trying to get one.

Default the Sheriff..

..and her 'staff' did NOT think this one thru; her 'LA Mentality' should've been left back there, and she should've 'listened' with an open mind to some who knew that LA is LA and OC is OC; it really is different; I live in San Berdo County; but I travel on biz to OC regularly as well as LA and as far north as SLO and south to SD. OC is one of the safest counties I travel to; I watch myself and my surroundings as a precaution, but more so in LA County. There were times prior to my CCW permit that I got really nervous; guess where that was??
