Important Announcement regarding Interim Sheriff Jack Anderson
The Orange County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday January 15th, 2008, accepted Assistant Sheriff Jack Anderson as acting Sheriff until the position can be filled by appointment. The Board will obviously have many candidates to choose from, some who have expressed great support for CCW issuance. We encourage them to take into account the success of the current issuance program, which has greatly expanded the availability of CCWs to ordinary law abiding citizens in Orange County, which stands in stark contrast to the restrictive issuance policies in place in Los Angeles County, where connections and favoritism are the norm in the granting of CCWs.
While we are primarily concerned with seeing the interim Sheriff continue, or even expand CCW issuance in Orange County, we cannot deny that the need of the Sheriff's Department to have an outstanding leader rises above all other issues. In light of these considerations, the staff, as well as the founding and senior members of CalCCW, believe that Assistant Sheriff Jack Anderson would be a superior choice to fill the remaining term until elections are held in 2010. He is a supporter of CCW, and is ready to lead until the voters of Orange County can make their voices heard in two years.
We encourage those of you in Orange County to make your views on this matter heard by your supervisors. This board tries to stay focused on helping law abiding individuals receive CCWs, so we will try to steer discussion away from 'which candidate is best' threads. In the future we may offer an opportunity for more political discussion, but at this point, with no election imminent, let's stay focused on our mission.
Thank you.
