Calif. judge gives ex assistant sheriff 27 months - Boston.com

SANTA ANA, Calif.—A former Orange County assistant sheriff has been sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for tax evasion and mail fraud.
A federal judge in Santa Ana on Monday also ordered George Jaramillo to pay a $50,000 fine and serve three years of probation.
Jaramillo pleaded guilty in March 2007 and agreed to cooperate in the government's probe of the sheriff's department.
He helped federal prosecutors in their investigation of former Sheriff Mike Carona but didn't testify at Carona's public corruption trial. Carona was found guilty in January of witness tampering.
