Default Hutchens Building Establishment Support

Hutchens Building Establishment Support
By Matthew Cunningham | 06/03/09 | 07:22 PM EDT

OC Sheriff Sandra Hutchens doesn't consider herself a politician, but she is surely, and less slowly, mimicking the motions of one -- which, of course, she needs to win election next year.

She's holding another fundraiser - her third or fourth of the year, I believe -- this month at the The Island Hotel in Fashion Island. Judging by the honorary and not-honorary host committees, she's rallying the support of OC's state legislators: Senators Mimi Walters, Tom Harman and Bob Huff, and Assemblymen Mike Duvall, Jeff Miller and Diane Harkey. Assemblyman Jim Silva has also endorsed Hutchens.

I spotted Milan Panic on the host committee. For readers unfamiliar with the name, Panic is an Serbian expatriate who made a fortune in pharmaceuticals before returning to his native and newly-decommunized Yugoslavia to serve as Prime Minister and run unsuccessfully against future war criminal Slobodan Milosevic for President of Serbia.

Dan Young's name is also on the host committee, signaling The Irvine Company -- cue forboding music -- is on board with the Sheriff (which indicates the Gnomes of Newport Center have concluded Hutchens has a clear shot).

And for those who don't Orange County has had a big enough injection of LA law enforcement, the guest speaker is LA County Sheriff Lee Baca. Perhaps Baca will give an update on his attempts to place restrictions on his deputies freedom to carry guns while off-duty. Unlike Sheriff Hutchens' restrictions on gun-carrying by the Un-Sworn, at least Baca is at least responding to an actual, rather than perceived, problem. The LASD deputies union is fighting the restrictions. Orange County CCW-holders don't have a union.

But I digress. Or do I?

Either way, with the election just a year away, Hutchens appears to be doing what she needs to: raising money, grabbing endorsements and speaking to any group she can. She's dialing-for-dollars: several weeks ago a friend of mine received a call from the Sheriff asking for a contribution. My friend declined, citing her CCW policy -- a rebuff the Sheriff politely accepted.

There's just a year left until the June 2010 election, meaning the window of opportunity for potential Hutchens opponents is beginning to close. There's still time, the but it's diminishing. For all her missteps, bad publicity and alienation of key political constituencies, Hutchens is still the Sheriff -- which is the best platform from which to be elected Sheriff. The longer she has the field to herself, the more you'll see donors, elected officials and other interested parties conclude she will likely be unchallenged and now is the time to climb aboard.

Stay tuned...

Did you click on the .pdf link to the invitation? The $1,700 maximum contribution category forgot to mention that it comes with a free CCW

Best thing to do IMHO is to send letters NOW to these Legislators (all of whom want to be re-elected) and tell them they have LOST YOUR VOTE for supporting this Sheriff whose polices are not in line with her constituency or their constituency.

My advice is to send hardcopy letters and not emails. they are more effective. Follow up phone call even better

Default Restoring the Constitution

Has anyone read Randy Barnett's "Restoring the Lost Constitution"? He is a professor of law at Princeton. He makes the clear point that no one considers the Constitution, including, especially, Sheriff Hutchens.
It's our fault for electing officials whose disdain for our Founding Documents can be smelled from the Right Coast.

I have already sent a letter expressing my disappointment to Sandra Hutchens' "Honorary Host Committee".

I would also like to send the following letter to the other State Senators and Assembly Members:

Quote:
Dear you,

I am very disappointed that Senators Mimi Walters, Tom Harmon, and Bub Huff, Assemblymen Mike Duvall and Jeff Miller, and Assemblywoman Diane Harkey have chosen to align themselves with appointed Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens by agreeing to be part of the “Honorary Host Committee” for an upcoming fund raiser for her.

Sandra Hutchens represents the worst that Law Enforcement bureaucracies have to offer. She has demonstrated time and again that she does not have the best interest of the people she is supposed to serve at heart. All of her actions to date have been done to satisfy her own self interests and those of people she is beholden to from her past.

She has consistently demonstrated a lack of respect for the opinions and wishes of those she is supposed to serve. She has also demonstrated a willingness to use very aggressive, heavy handed methods to quell or undermine the voices or actions of those who speak out against her.

Do not take my word for this, your own independent research will confirm what I have said.

Like many of their constituents I will not be attending the fund raiser for Sandra Hutchens due to her HOSTILE stance on SELF-DEFENSE and demonstrated distrust of the people she is supposed to serve.

Like many of her constituents, I will not be supporting Sandra Hutchens in any way. More importantly, since THEY are supporting her, I will not be supporting any of them in any way. If any of them should choose to run for a higher office I will not vote for them. Additionally, I will send as much money as I can afford to any candidate who opposes them for their current office or any office they may choose to run for in the future, regardless of their political affiliation.

The politicians named above are not public servants. They have forgotten who they work for and to whom they are accountable. They represent the worst stereotypes that are commonly applied to politicians and place all elected public servants in a bad light

Please do not repeat the mistakes of these politicians. Respect your constituents and their opinions as an elected public servant is expected to do.

Sincerely,

Me
As before this is for all of us and I am posting it here first for your feedback.

Thanks again for all you do,

Poogsdad

I just sent the following letter to all California State Senators and Assemblymen. There are on a couple small changes from my original proposed letter that I posted previously.

Quote:
Dear xxxxxxxx,

I am very disappointed that Senators Mimi Walters, Tom Harmon, and Bob
Huff, Assemblymen Mike Duvall and Jeff Miller, and Assemblywoman Diane
Harkey have chosen to align themselves with appointed Orange County
Sheriff Sandra Hutchens by agreeing to be part of the “Honorary Host

Do not take my word for this, your own independent research will confirm
what I have said.

Like many of their constituents I will not be attending the fund raiser
for Sandra Hutchens due to her HOSTILE stance on fundamental rights and
demonstrated distrust of the people she is supposed to serve.

Like many of her constituents, I will not be supporting Sandra Hutchens
in any way. More importantly, since the politicians noted above are
supporting her, I will not be supporting any of them in any way.

If any of them should choose to run for a higher office I will not vote

Using an assumption that the administrators for the Senate and Assembly Email Servers used consistent conventions in assigning email addresses, I located some published email addresses for some State Senators and Assembly Members. Not surprisingly, most do not publish their assigned email address.

However for those that did, there was clearly a very consistent convention used in assigning email addresses. I created email distribution lists based upon these conventions and sent the above email off to both entire distribution lists.

I received six (6) automated replies from Senators indicating my letter had been received, including Bob Huff. Unfortunately, i received a failure notice indicating the remaining Senators had not received the email.

I had much better luck with the Assembly Members, however. I received twenty-eight (28) automated replies indicating my letter had been received and only two (2) failure notices.

As soon as I figure out how to export these distribution lists, I will post them.

Thanks,

Poogsdad

I wish you all luck in getting her out. I don't want her sticking around and contaminating any other counties.
