No pass from me either. She puts the rest of the citizens in jeopardy driving under the influence ( in our county car). The potential for death to an innocent person, and it is always an innocent person, by someone operating a lethal weapon (the car) is significant. While I sympathize with her personal tragedies, which we all have as a matter of life, no slack given with this incident. If the other party were killed, would slack still be given to her because of her personal tragedies? WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT WE DO, PERIOD. IMHO

I totally agree. While I do not condone (in any way) the DUI, hopefully it's a big wake-up call to her that she has a problem and will drive her to seek the help that she needs.

What? Did I say something? Did I say that in her call to dispatch she blamed the other driver ("Someone hit me."), yet a follow up report stated the Sheriff could have prevented the accident? Did I say that?

My 17 year old nephew along with his 2 friends were killed by a 5 times DUI in Texas! Not much happened to the DUI, 6 months in jail, big deal. I believe a LEO should have enough brains to call for assitance when they have had too much to drink! She didn't she pays! MHO

Wait a minute, brother. You mean that the OC sheriff had an accident and it got played down/swept under the carpet?
Is this it?
Am I out of place here?

What could possibly lead you to believe that? There was nothing in the newspaper. That sort of thing would not be covered up, right?

No your not out of place. I would think that would be a nice little campaign jab. But of course we have complete transparency with this incident.

My brother died at 17.... he was the one drunnk and caused the accident. Fortunately nobody else was hurt.

Sad to say but drinking and driving over the limit or not is socially acceptable. Look at any busy bar at night... I hardly believe all of the patrons have a designated driver.

Sorry for your loss.
I think part of the problem is there is no clear cut penalty for most of our crimes. If you drink and drive there is multiple different outcomes. If they started by saying if you choose to drink and drive the penalty is a $5,000.00 fine and six months in jail and an automatic one year suspension of your drivers license. This way people know what the cost is before doing it. As the law stands now it's a crap shoolt as to what the penalties are going to be.
