Im not sure on Meg Whitmans stance on guns.... However, there are OTHER issues facing the state at this time, and she is one of the BEST picks for governor given those OTHER problems.... At least she wont race to make things WORSE.

She is SHARP as a tack, and has the SKILLS needed right now to BALANCE THE STATES BUDGET, that the other lifelong politicians running on the Democrat side lack.

As a CEO, when your budget doesnt balance, you cant just say "Make the customer pay more." (ala just raise taxes at the public level). You have to trim fat first.... And LOWER prices to sell more units.

And the gov't wants to counties to trim services and staff. Our county already did that, and Arnold wants us to cut our infrastructure as well when there is none to cut anymore. Once you do that, what else is there to cut? Arnold wants to take $2 million away from the budget which was already trimmed to the minimum, and who knows how much from other counties. What do we cut now, police and emergency services?

Why don't they cut the salaries of those fat cats in Sacramento who caused this problem in first place? No, better yet, fire them as in vote them OUT!!!

I work in gov't as a peon so yeah, I feel I have room to rant since I am worried about my own job.

Default Before you get behind Meg Whitman....

You might want to visit the site below where she said,"-- Guns: She said she supports Second Amendment rights, but that an assault weapon ban and handgun restrictions are "probably the right thing in California." She does not own a gun.

We don't need another Arnie in place.....

Here are some recent quotes about the budget issues, nothing new to anyone livng here I'm sure.

“There is no measure of economic strength that provides even a glimmer of hope for California’s economy in the near future.” – William Watkins of the University of California, Santa Barbara.

· “The economy is in a free fall, and if Schwarzenegger and legislators lose on May 19, they could face another $20 billion deficit in 2009-10 beginning with a severe cash crunch in July…wholesale slaughter of state spending may be the Legislature’s only option. This is a pivotal point in California political history.” – Dan Walters, political columnist for the Sacramento Bee.

· “California, frankly, is going to be in a world of hurt. It’s really going to be about devastating cuts.” – State Assembly Speaker Karen Bass.

· “Cash flow pressures are likely to re-emerge in Summer and Fall 2009. California is likely to have difficulty borrowing anywhere close to the needed amounts from the short-term bond markets based on the state government’s own credit.” – Mac Taylor, State Legislative Analyst.

· “We can triage a projected $8 billion deficit, but beyond that, triage is not the word I would use. Is it a scare tactic? No, it’s reality, the numbers are numbers.” – Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg.

· “In February, Democrats were able to lure a handful of Republicans into voting for a budget that temporarily increased taxes, but the chances of Republicans voting again to jack up taxes are slim to none – and slim left town.” – Greg Lucas, California’s Capitol.

· “Democrats are not eager to cut further into state spending and will likely try to close some of the budget gap through ‘fees’, which can be approved by majority vote, rather than general taxes, which require two-thirds. A Hail Mary play…” – Greg Lucas, California’s Capitol.

· “Governor Schwarzenegger has threatened to eliminate more than 1,700 state firefighting positions and close of scores of fire stations. He is prepared to propose a $2 billion suspension of the 2004 constitutional initiative protecting city and county revenues.” – KQED Radio.

Prop. 42 revenues will be in jeopardy. This approximate $1.7 billion annual dedicated funding source from the state sales tax on gasoline, which is used to build many state and local transportation projects, will likely be on the chopping block as the Governor and legislators look to quickly fill the budget gap. These are the roads we all traverse... being "stolen" ... again...

While Whitman might be the best candidate choice - or at least she might stand a chance given that she may not be too "far right" for more voters. But there's a lot yet to take place before any elections. YES, California faces INCREDIBLE economic & social challenges ... being a conservative I know addressing the issues will take time and patience AND PAIN - I'm very open to Whitman. The question is just how deep in the tank will things be by election time and will the electorate have any clue that the pain that we endure will have no short term fix? - regardless of the promises of those slick politician types? I see little hope that the State will avoid bankruptcy. That may be the only sensible chance to remedy years of mismanagement - can we get the union control out of Sacramento? Regardless, we are going to see the likes of which we have never seen in the coming month when the propositions fail...meanwhile hunker down & hold on to your wallets.

that's a can of worms he really should not open.

The only thing that's on my mind now is a major recall election. I see it looming on the horizon...

Default About Whitman

Is it only me, or does anyone else recall that Meg Whitman is entirely against not only using EBAY for brokering firearms in any way (hence the existence of Gunbroker.com and others) as well as Paypal (also owned by ebay) not allowing any monies to be exchanged if it is for the purpose of a firearm?

Whitman will say whatever it takes, but her corporate actions are soundly antigun in any form.

Just what we need, another RINO. A female Arnold.

Meg Whitman makes case on how she's different

Default Sorry....

Roman Dad,

Sorry. No offense was intended about Whitman. I just saw her take of California and guns, and since no one else seemed aware, thought it good to post it so we might seek another candidate if there was one.

It may be that she is the ONLY candidate who will not follow in Feinstein's footsteps; in which case, OK, then. BUT, if we CAN find someone more to our liking, searching NOW might be a good idea, yes?

If Meg Whitman is the best we can get (i.e., her Dem opponent would be worse), then we'll just have to hold our collective nose and vote for her -- she may not drive handgun ownership into the ground along with 'assault' weapons. Politicians have been known to 'forget' their public pronouncements.
