All my kids that are old enough to communicate effectively (5 & 3, not the 2 year old) know I carry. We have a code word for it both in the home and out in public should the need ever arise. My 5 yo son shoots with me (he has a Henry Mini-Bolt) and watches me practice at the range and my dry fire drills in my office.
They know not to discuss my "safety" or Poppa's guns in general with ANYBODY, and I've explicitly made that include teachers or doctors if they're ever asked (which appears to be more & more common).
