The two youngest discovered dad’s secret on their own. One walked into our room to tell me dinner was ready while I was changing my shirt, the other decided to attack me from behind the couch as I came through the door, resulting in the unpleasant realization that there was something hard underneath dad's shirt, and it’s not a cell phone. This lead to the discussion about what concealed carry was, what it meant for our family, and why it must remain a family secret. I notice that they now hug me on weak side to avoid the head vs. 1911 collision.
As a family that has numerous firearms, my wife and I have spent many hours reinforcing the notion that our guns are no ones business. They are not to be discussed with anyone at school or in the neighborhood. We also have taken several classes on defense in the home and have spent quite a bit of time working with our children on “what to do if”.

OK, no excuse for not making it to our next range day with the kids! Good post, i have had similar discussions with our kids--my son was trying too hard to explain the 2nd amendment to his classmates, (and he can recite it perfectly) but the little liberals at school were arguing for gun control (sound familiar?), i assured my son that any discussion of guns is just not a topic he should discuss at school, I think he got the message <sigh>.
