I'm using a little different tactic with my son. He helps me when I'm reloading (he loves the kinetic bullet puller), I have him watch me when I'm cleaning or adjusting my firearms after shoot days, and I'm getting ready to start training him with hands on unloaded guns. Let him hold them and look at them untill he gets bored with them. But I'm not going to tell him that I carry, being familiar with being around guns I don't anticipate that he would take any special not that if I slip up I have a walnut piece of wood sticking out the back of my pants.

'what's that hard thing daddy?'
It's my cell phone son.
