My 2cents if I may.

This applies to all children, wives, girlfriends, family members etc. Any of which could slip up at any time.

Things to possibly consider before telling young children or others.
1 Does this child give hugs constantly and may 'feel' the firearm or bump his head and call out load 'what's that hard thing daddy?'.
2 If you do tell your child, can he be taught not to comment about it during a 'situation' where it may not be appropriate to draw? You do not need a child telling a bank robber to stop because daddy has a gun.
3 Is your child ego driven and may brag to other kids that his daddy has a gun on him all the time.

I am not promoting not telling people, just to be careful.
I do believe that the more people that understand the decision to carry the more acceptable it could become.
