They work well with some kinds of clothing. If you're in an area that has a lot of tourists, and you are dressed like a tourist otherwise, and your fanny pack isn't black and "tactical" it can blend in without anyone giving a second look.
Mommies with kids can wear them without looking out of place, too. It depends on the situation.
