Interesting, I really like the Rugers too.....though the last one i'd shot before making my decision was an older
Blackhawk....I had one heck of a time hanging on to it's small grip.

I think that the
Redhawk was a major improvement.
Just before I ordered my
Mountain Gun, I was shooting at the Bass Lake Sheriff's range with a buddy who had one from the first production.

) we're both at about 25 yards and the targets are pinned to the cable (
when there's a breeze, I hook a small fishing weight patty on a bent nail to the bottom of the target)
With Ed's 629 in hand, first shot, I blew the lead patty off to never-never land!

The next shot just grazed the bottom of the paper.......at that point Mr Ed walks up and gives me a hearty pinch on the right armpit and informs me I'm anticipating the recoil and pushing the barrel into the dirt.
He said when using the 4", just grip firmly and let the recoil push straight back in your hand...............Yes Sir....The next four all near the 10 Ring.
Sorry for the long story, but that comfort is what sold me on the S&W in this case.
