All I know is that the P-228 is a stamped slide, and the P-229 has a slide that is machined out of a solid piece of metal. P-226 is same but with a longer barrel. P-226 were issued to US Navy SEAL units since the first gulf war as they are a very reliable weapon. You can get the P-226 with a NSW (NAVSPECWAR) markings, they are available for extra though. The newer P-226 went to a solid slide also, because some ops groups were shooting hot loads. I own the old timer one, never had a failure and that is the gun that will never be sold. I heard/read, don't remember now that these weapons were field tested and had a cyclic rate failure of 1 in 94,000 cycles.
P-229. Secret Service and Fed. Air Marshall in .357. Diplomatic Protective Services uses them as well.
