Several reasons, though none of them would necessarily appeal to everyone else...

First -
No lock and silly little key

Price is better

cylinder locks up in front at the crane and at the rear into the recoil plate, so it doesn't shake loose as easy as the smiths. From what I can gather, the smiths, when fed a diet of full loads, will need to be rebuilt. It will never happen with the Ruger.

ejector rod does not rotate so it won't come loose and lock up the gun.

the cylinder bolt notches are cut a bit off center this makes the cylinder wall thicker at the thinnest point than the others, nice when you want to shoot those heavy loads. :-)


Congrats on the VMII! I don't think I could wear this one IWB with the VMII - just too big. I did get some loops on the Simply Rugged holster so I can TRY it IWB, but my guess is it will be OWB pancake style.
