I have a finger-groove gun safe on my nightstand, cable locked to the bed. Inside is my .45, .38 and .40. Next to the safe is a standard flashlight.
Between the door and us, are two aggressive, 100lbs+ German Shepherds, who are trained to guard us while we sleep. If a motion light goes on outside, they are up and roving the interior for answers.

We recently had an incident in Sierra City....a woman heard a noise outside and there was a man standing by her car. She held a flashlight on him and told him to leave. He walked toward her and acted strange. She called 911. The man stole her neighbor's car and it was later found out he was a murderer fugitive. She saw him, and her attention was drawn by a motion light. Motion lights, dogs, locked doors and firearms - the keys to security at home.
