Default "Nightstand" Set Up (and too close for comfort)

The incident in Irvine yesterday where the rapist made his way into someone's home was literally at the end of my street. Just prior to the police swarming the area, someone tried our front door as if to get in. I wasn't home, but my stepson heard it, looked out the window to see someone walking away then stopping to urinate on the sidewalk (in Irvine of all places.) I think a rapist on the run wouldn't stop to pee, but I don't really believe in coincidences.

Anyway, that begs the question, what do you have as your nightstand gun? Do you have a dedicated gun that is always there, or when you're done carrying for the day do you place your carry gun nearby? If you have a dedicated gun, does it have a light attached or do you keep a light near by. If it's a dedicated gun, what do you do about security (keeping other people from getting it.)

Thanks.
