I used to make regular trips to the Westminster (Fountain Valley?) store. Looked more like a bunker on the outside, but the inside was much more interesting.

The "official" answer I was given years ago about them shutting down had to do with their low-margin-high-volume sales tactics. Firearms sales peaked in the mid-late 90's (if I remember correctly), then dropped off quite dramatically and they couldn't stay afloat.

CCWI told me the real story, which is, of course, more complicated. I don't remember the details, but there was a problem with paperwork, one of the brothers did something rather unbrotherly to the other, and general badness ensued. The sales drop-off might have been a secondary factor, I suppose.
