Hi All,
Sorry, I'm in

mode, excuse the venting but take heed.
I decided to stock up on 45ACP for the event I have planned in June (which includes breaking in that Ultra CDP II I just DROSed on!). I knew from experience that Walmart had good prices on the 100rd WWB ammo (CCWI gave me the tip) and started calling around for availability. I did this because the last time I went in they only had one box on the shelf (luckily they found a 500rd carton in the back and got it for me).
Today when calling around asking for quantity I got universal confusion on caliber and quantity as expected, but a new twist from one store. The sporting goods department counter clerk informed me that he was not able to sell large quantites of ammo since the VT event. He said the last customer who asked for 500rds was detained and they called the cops (probably not true

). He wouldn't disclose how much they had on the shelf and when pushed on quantity he told me he would sell me no more than 300rds total (I wonder if he would have sold me a brick of .22LR

?) without managerial approval. The manager was not in today so I would have to wait until tomorrow if I wanted more.
While it seems we are certainly headed this way in this state, I was upset that the VT incident had any bearing on my ability to buy ammunition even when purchasing in person and fully willing to submit ID. I went to a different store and bought them out of the 800rds they had without a hitch. The inconsistent policy leads me to believe it was this particular counter clerk's own spin on what was 'good' vs. 'evil'. The fact that he was willing to sell 300rds obviously undermined his whole 'public safety' mantra. If he was serious he should have said no ammo sales at all.
Just for fun I went to this store and picked up the last 200rds of ammo I wanted. The guy behind the counter was selling 200rds of 40 S&W to the guy in front of me and was happy to give me what I wanted as well. He didn't even ask for ID and sent me on my way with a "Have a great day". I'm not sure if he was the safety nazi or not, but the point wouldn't be made there, I got their last two boxes on the shelf!
I wonder if anyone would have noticed if I tried to buy 1000 bottles of beer?
