IANASME but personally, I'd error on the side of caution and notify. In a case like this, where the officer is just talking with you and not expecting you to reach for your pocket, I'd tell him verbally first and ask if he would like to see it. I'd also avoid using the word "gun" while I do.

IANASME either but I bet if you're in any state that accepts your home state as well as your out-of-state permit, you are officially there on your home state permit if it comes to some sort of enforcement issue regarding restrictions/requirements. In other words, you'd be in violation (with OCSD) for not telling the out-of-state LEO about your OC CA CCW.
