The conversation has to last for more than a couple minutes i.e. I was stopped by a Santa Monica copper while walking a dog because they wanted to know what kind of dog it was (good looking beast etc.) and I did not mention the CCW because the conversation lasted for less then a couple of minutes and I was carrying a fanny pack, in front and clearly visible.
