On Friday Grant County basically said, "Come on down". But they are a long way away. There is a guy in Portland who is a volunteer deputy for Grant County. He is willing to meet with Californians in Portland and sometimes he travels to California and does the paperwork and finger prints. His name is Sal. He and I have traded voice mails, but I haven't talked to him.
Klamath County said, send the sheriff a letter explaining why you want it. I emailed a letter saying I am a CA CCW and have family and friends in OR. I received a call back in about an hour saying that the sheriff would like to see your app. They are open for non-resident apps Tues and Thurs from 9 - 12 and will take appointments at other times.
So, I rode my motorcycle to Klamath Falls today. I was immediately greeted at the window by friendly admin staff. She took my paperwork and told me that the only evidence of training and qual needed was my CA CCW because "California is stricter than we are". I paid $65 in cash. She said have a seat and we will bring you in soon.
I waited less than 5 minutes. A volunteer finger printed me, had me sign a little card which I assume will be the permit and he took my photo (bad helmet hair). He then said, I venture to say that you will have your permit within two weeks.
I was at the sheriff's department about 15 minutes.
Worth an all day trip.
