I loved FTA's CCW course that I took even though I am in SBD county so if you CCW I encourage that. It was only $175 for 2 days and worth the money.

From there on I suggest not spending your money. I took the general handgun 2 day course for $300 and was bored to death after having just come from my first USPSA match. If you know nothing about handguns then take the course but if you are even remotely good at shooting then dont waste your money.

Dont think that if you cant hit a bullseye that you arent a good shooter. It really doesnt matter and that isnt what you will learn in the course. You need time on the gun and under the appropriate circumstances and nothing better then $30 at a USPSA match.

9x45 and I seem to pair up often and go to these matches so anyone that wants to come with would be welcomed and it wont be so scary having us show you the ropes. My first time I followed 9x45 and continue do so since he has been doing this longer then I have been alive.

These training courses in my opinion are a waste of money and its more talking and helping the morons that appear unsafe then it is you getting the practice you need.

Dont think of these matches as a competition think of them as practice and after a few you will be see dramatic changes in your skills.
