Added to that my rumor spun understanding is that the closest IDPA practices are run by C- out of OT (there may be others nearby but C- is who was referred to me). While I enjoy both the person and the range generally, both are currently flaming me on another board because I don't agree with their politics. So my practice has dwindled to nothing at all since the BH love parade started. Its been a month since I shot at all, so I think a drive down to Oceanside might be in order just so my girlies don't rust out

I'm told that OT is a 2-hour mixed bag. Sometimes IDPA, sometimes three-gun (handgun, shotgun, rifle). It's less expensive, ~ $15 IIRC. It has the advantage that they sometimes do low-light, because they are indoor.
Try Prado out in Chino Hills; the 1984 Olympic Shooting Park. It's outdoor (in open-air cinder block bays). Usually ~60 people show up before 8:30 (before 8am for a first-timer), and sign up for 1 of 4 squads (they have 4 bays and have 2 set ups per bay, one on each side, left and right, 8 set ups in all). Every squad shoots every stage (i.e., every set up). In each squad, you wait your turn to shoot, and have an RO standing there with you for safety. The range is (almost) always run cold -- only the shooter has a loaded gun, again for safety. It's fun, and you can be as slow as you like in draw and fire (although they time you and the IDPA gamers are into speed). And they have the occasional youngster (11 or 12 year old) show up and shoot. They're nice to women, too.
