This is a very important point. When Bill Hunt ran against Carona, here is what he said about CCW.
"There have been less than 1200 issued CCW`s in a county of 3 million. The majority have been given to reserve police officers, judges, prosecutors
and to reward political supporters. "
Good CCW news from Orange County, California: Bill Hunt promises shall-issue - THR
How did that help our cause? It didn't. It hurt our cause. That's the same crap that Hutchens cited as her justification for reviewing and revoking your CCWs. And all of you know that it isn't true! Person after person after person stood up before the Board of Supervisors and stated that they didn't know Mike Carona, had never met him, and had never contributed to his campaign.
And even if you ignore "to reward political supporters" it simply isn't true that the majority went to "reserve police officers, judges [and] prosecutors." The majority of CCWs issued under Carona went to ordinary citizens like you and me. And Hunt didn't even have the total numbers right.
But that's what the news media said (incorrectly) so that's what Bill Hunt said. Which has to make you wonder, if the news media hadn't raised the issue of CCWs, would it even have been part of Hunt's campaign?
