In my vastly under qualified opinion this is one of those situations where there is no "right", just flavors of wrong.
Dynamic situations are just that.
You can train and train and train till you're the 900lb gorilla of pistol fighting but there's always a situation you didn't train for. You have to take what you've learned, adapt it to the situation and work the problem one slice at a time.
The whole "this training is superior to this training" crap is just that. Almost all training is good training, the more kinds you take, the more you can adapt to a situation. Think Neo in the matrix. "I know Kung-fu!" He didn't know kung-fu, he learned every martial art they had on file.
I see training as the same thing. Force on force is great training, low light training is great training, situational training (scenario based) is great training but at the end of the day when it's your turn... there's a lot of monkey brain and lizard brain crap you're dealing with. Training gives you defaults but there is no default for everything.
You have a brain, use it.
Also, if you take situational training with CCWI in the death box with Female Instructor. Wear a cup. She does not miss and she plays for keeps.
not said from personal experience but have heard the aftermath stories
