A little history. . . In March of 1995 John Moorlach was appointed as the Orange County Treasure. In the following election he tried to use incumbent on the ballot. He was taken to court under the theory he was never elected. He lost, they won. On the ballot he was listed as "Appointed Treasure". Today that court case still stands.

I think that is the point. Not being able to use incumbent to me is better.
A lot of people just mark the incumbent box when they vote for an office that they know nothing about.
Yeah appointed might give her a little edge. But not as much as incumbent IMHO. there was a reason there was a lawsuit regarding this issue.
