Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer.
I have wondered for some time how these gun turn in programs are allowed to work. I know law enforcement has certain exemptions when it come to firearms laws such that they may not need to wait 10 days, no restriction on mag capacity, etc but can they legally take possession of firearms if they are not an FFL? I understand they may need to when disarming a suspect, but that is different. Have we all just assumed they could take possession of these firearms legally because who after all would arrest them?
