Having been through this situation I will relate my personal experience of what I encountered.

As a CCW holder you are exempt from the gun free zone and related laws. As a student you are limited by school policy. You must obtain permission from the university president in order to carry your weapon as a student.

The regulation seems to contradict the law but as a student you are subject to an additional set of restrictions as a condition of attending that particular campus. Post secondary education is not compulsory and by choosing to attend you agree to abide by the regulations. By all means you can request that permission bearing in mind that location is everything and that political fallout may result.
